What causes under eye bags?

Under eye bags are multifactorial, involving various structures around the eyes. Factors contributing to their appearance include fat pad migration, weakening of the orbicularis oculi muscle, herniated fat pads, skin laxity, and fluid retention. Additionally, wrinkles can develop due to muscle movement, contributing to the overall appearance of under eye bags.

How to treat under eye bags?

Lifestyle changes: Eating less salt and improving your sleep can help with eye bags if some days are worse than others. In the morning, a cold spoon on the eyes or putting your eye cream in the fridge may temporarily help to depuff.

Eye Creams: Eye creams that are just little moisturizers are a waste of your money. When looking for eye creams to treat under eye bags, look for specific ingredients targeting individual concerns, such as caffeine for puffiness and retinol & matrixyl for wrinkles.

In-office procedures: Microneedling, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels are effective options to tighten the skin underneathe the eyes.

Surgery: Blepharoplasty is an incredibly effective procedure for under eye bags performed by an oculoplastic surgeon. This will remove excess skin and fat in this area.
